Maths

Why is it useful for medical school/my future career?

  • Admittedly you probably won’t be integrating trigonometric functions during medical school exams or on the wards
  • However, maths A level requires you to
    • Understand abstract concepts and apply them to solve problems
    • Think logically
  • Also, if you are thinking of getting involved in research during medical school or beyond, A level maths can help you
    • Model biological processes as equations containing exponential/natural logarithmic functions- this is particularly important in bioinformatics
    • Analyse data and understand the purpose/limitations of statistical tests

General revision tips

  • Do lots of practice questions/past papers
  • Identify weak areas and you can use the ‘questions by topic’ from the websites below to focus on them
  • Keep your working clear and logical so it’s easy to go back and understand if you make a mistake
  • ALWAYS CHECK WHETHER YOUR CALCULATOR IS IN DEGREES OR RADIANS I LEARNED THE HARD WAY
